    Background:

Most of us can’t see or ‘touch’ space - but we often can hear it, and the speed of sound means we are often hearing events that happened long ago and far away. You can witness the orbits of Sputnik, the landing on the moon or even the Big Bang... where space is “leaking in” to the pipes and taps of our more ordinary world.

    Challenge Description:

    1. Listen to some of the space sound clips provided in the Resources section, then try to create those sounds by using real world objects.
    2. Or using electronics, create real world objects that playback some of the sounds available in the Resources section.

    Functional Specifications:

    1. For the first challenge, be creative in using household objects to recreate the sounds of space. This could be anything from crumbling pieces of paper to replicate the sounds of a spaceship taking off, or even using musical instruments and radios to replicate the sounds of stars. This is primarily a challenge at kids.
    2. For the second challenge, hardware hackers, makers or developers should build objects and devices that playback space sounds from the resources below. Or, using the SETI data, create a sound visualization that follows the data (something like the CSV soundsystem project: http://csvsoundsystem.github.com/fms-treasury-statements-site/)
