This project is solving the Seven Minutes of Science challenge.
Forget the balance masses, let us do something useful with the Cruise Stage.With its solar panels, hydrazine thrusters, transmitters and star tracker. All we need to do is skip it off of the Martian atmosphere back into orbit. I propose an inflatable skipping surface be inflated after separation and we skip the cruise stage away from Mars.If it can be salvaged in this way you have a fairly powerful platform to which you could attach some science experiment.
